About the Bateleur

  • Scientific Name: Terathopius ecaudatus
  • Wingspan: 5.5 to 6.3 ft.
  • Habitat : Forests, savannas, shrublands, and grasslands in Central Africa
  • Conservation Status: Endangered (Population decreasing)
  • Fun Fact: Bateleurs have “training wings” as juveniles. Young bateleurs have longer feathers that give them greater control in the air while learning to fly!
