June 27, 2023: When I started drawing my first bird, the California condor, I was not expecting that I would illustrate all 52 birds featured in the Birds of Play deck. It’s still wild to me, that, a little over a year later, I finished the last raptor in the series. I saved my personal favorite for last, finishing off with the peregrine falcon! More info on the birds: The California condor is the largest flying bird in North America, with a wingspan of nearly 10 feet. In the late 1980s, it went extinct in the wild. As a result of a breeding and reintroduction program, there are now 336 California condors back in their natural habitat! Peregrine comes from the Latin word for traveler, “Peregrinus.” This name suits it excellently, as it is the most widely spread bird of prey in the world and can be found on all continents but Antarctica. The peregrine falcon is the fastest diving bird in the world (the common swift is the fastest flier) and can reach speeds of over 186 miles per hour. Zooooooooom.
